David Bradtke aims to enjoy the journey into the unknown that each painting offers, exploring the pathway between chaos and control as he experiments with a range of materials and techniques. He said that there is little intellectualising during the painting process other than to sit and look at the work at different stages and sense what the painting needs, a dialogue that he finds exciting.

Many of David’s images have their genesis in the human form but over time, they become abstracted into shape and line, which broadens the field of interpretation for the viewer. The glyphs in several works are two-dimensional representations of spirals and sections of spirals in space.

David’s travels to Italy, Japan, Peru, and Easter Island have generated many surreal and metaphysical concepts and images, the result of impressions and atmospheres felt while on the road. His work also reflects a fascination with mythmaking and Surrealism.
