The subject of my work arises from deep mythological sources and an anthropomorphic representation of the wild creatures and flowers of the Wombat forest. Each piece takes on posture and gesture from the western classical art canon. A recent series titled, “How to balance a cat on your head” is inspired by the persistent historical images of the Lady of the Beasts, in particular, a Cretan goddess holding a snake in both hands and a cat on her head. As a long-term cat lover, it amused me to contemplate such a perilous a balancing act.
